Zimbabwe Ranked 7th Biggest Diamond Producer

According to the latest global ranking figures released this Friday, Zimbabwe ranks as the 7^th biggest diamond producer in the world.

As per the report that was released by diamond regulator Kimberly Process and then reproduced by Rapa port, the US gem trade regulator, last year Zimbabwe produced diamonds worth US $334 million last year.

The same ranking showed Botswana as the top gem producer, producing gem worth US $2.5 Billion. Closely followed by Russia that accounted for diamond worth US$2.35 Billion and Canada with its US$2.3 billion diamond produce last year.

South Africa ranks fourth with its mines producing gems worth US$1800 million. Angola ranks fifth in the list while Namibia comes sixth.

The report also stated that last year the global rough diamond produce rose by 39% as compared to previous year.

In terms of carat volume there is an approximate rise of 7% or 133.12 carats. The average price per carat produced rose 30% to US$90.13.

As we all know that real diamonds are the hardest. Fake diamond or CZ is not that hard. If you're looking at a ring and can get a loupe or magnifying glass, have a good look at the facets of the stone. Fake diamond or CZs of any age will almost definitely show light scratching and scuffing – but a real diamond is very unlikely to.

If you have a diamond jewelry - ring pendant or earring - observe the mounting on the ring. If the setting is good quality and it does not have the initial CZ (cubic zirconium) there is a possibility your diamond could be real.

If you are still in doubt, I recommend you to take your diamond or diamond jewelry to a jeweler. They can perform a more thorough test to insure your precious stone is real.

These are some test you can perform on loose diamond to check whether it is real or not -

Place a dot on plain white paper with pen or pencil. Turn the diamond you want to test on that ‘dot’ upside down.

Diamonds tend to refract light so if you can see the dot through the diamond, chances are it’s a fake.
Diamonds are known to be good conductors of heat. Breathe on the diamond you want to test. If the diamond stays foggy for about 4 seconds then your diamond is real one. Beware, some capped cubic zirconium based with real diamond and moissanite will pass this test.
Real diamonds can be cut more 'finely' than a fake diamond or

CZ so the edges between the facets will always be very sharp on a real diamond. If you look at both together you can clearly see the difference.
Look at the color of the diamond. If it’s perfectly clear chances are there that your diamond may not be real one. As diamonds generally have a slight yellow tent, thus they are set in yellow gold to disguise the color better.
Cost of the diamond can also tell you whether you are buying real or fake stone. If you are offered a large stone for a good price, chances are it’s not real.

A huge diamond was unearthed in the southern African nation of Lesotho last month. According to the company that found it states that this could yield one of the largest and highest quality round polished diamonds. Experts in Antwerp, Belgium who analyzed the 478-carat stone determined it to be of the highest color grading available for a white diamond.

It's a D color, which is the highest possible graded color you can get, and is believed there is a chance -- a very good chance -- of getting a 100-carat plus" round stone with the highest color and clarity rankings from this stone.

Two bigger stones -- 603 and 493 carats -- were found in the same mine in 2006 and 2007, respectively. A 601-carat diamond was mined here only in 1960.
